Goteik Viaduct renovated and tested with train carrying 209 tons of cargo

The damaged parts of the ancient heritage Goteik Viaduct in Nawnghkio Township have been restored to their original state and a train carrying 209 tons of cargo has been tested, according to sources.

Myanma Railways engineers have successfully restored the damaged parts of the ancient heritage Goteik Viaduct in Nawnghkio Township, northern Shan State, which was destroyed by a mine explosion by insurgents on August 24, 2025, according to the original design. A team consisting of Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Mya Htun Oo, Deputy Minister U Aung Myaing and officials from Myanma Railways inspected the test run of the train on Goteik Viaduct on November 12.
The Union Minister and his team arrived at Goteik Station in Nawnghkio Township and watched the test run of a train carrying 209 tons of cargo on the fully renovated Goteik Viaduct. They also rode an RGC rail vehicle from Goteik Station to the bridge on the Lashio side.
The Goteik Viaduct was damaged by a mine explosion by terrorists on August 24 this year, causing both sides of the bridge pier between the Lashio side of the bridge and pier No. 16 to be damaged. The damaged bridge piers were replaced with steel piers manufactured by the Bridge Pier Workshop (Yangon) of the Myanma Railways Engineering Department within 76 days and restored to their original condition.
Then, the Union Minister, Deputy Minister and Managing Director of Myanma Railways presented awards to the officials and employees of Myanma Railways who worked hard to complete the Goteik Viaduct in a short time.
Then, the Union Minister and his team returned to Goteik Station by RGC train and instructed them to keep the station and the station yard clean and beautiful as it is a historical heritage bridge and a place of special interest for domestic and foreign tourists.
Currently, the engineering staff of Myanma Railways has completed the renovation of the damaged part of the Goteik Viaduct according to the original design, and the scenic RBE trains that previously ran from Pyin Oo Lwin Station to Goteik Station will soon be able to run again.
Next, the Union Minister and his team visited the concrete slab factory in Hsipaw, and inspected the concrete slab factory in Hsipaw, where the Managing Director and officials of Myanma Railways explained the situation of the lost and damaged machinery, electrical equipment, spare parts, and vehicles of the concrete block factory, totaling 179 items, worth about 3,888.62 million kyats, due to the destruction by the terrorists on November 11, 2023. The Union Minister ordered the factory to be restored to operation as soon as possible and to prioritize the issues according to the important sectors depending on the work.
Then, he inspected the Myanma Post Office (Auto Exchange) in Hsipaw, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (Township Office), Hsipaw Station, and the Myanma Post Office (Hsipaw Post Office). He met with the departmental officials of the ministry at the Myanma Post Office (Hsipaw Post Office). The Union Minister ordered the departments to coordinate with each other and implement the goals, carry out the work systematically, and work diligently in carrying out their duties.
The Union Minister and his team then went to Kyaukme and met with the departmental staff under the ministry at the Traffic and Road Safety Education Training Hall of the Department of Road Transport Administration.
They then visited Kyaukme Station and inspected the station and its yard area, and instructed them to inspect and repair the condition of the track to ensure that trains can run again.
